Day 14: On the radio

So here’s my bit on BBC Radio Devon from yesterday talking about #doyoulooklikeme. From 31:12

Probably the most embarrassing moment was when my brain blanked on Helena Bonham Carter and wanted to call her Helena Bottom Carter instead. You can tell it really tickled Shep, one of the presenters, who you can hear repressing his laughter.

Sadly this clip won’t be available on iPlayer for very long, which means the link above won’t always work. Shame.

In other news, I got a phone call from a radio station in a different country (not county) this morning, which is very exciting. More on that soon…

Day 13: BBC Radio Devon and Caitlin Moran (the sequel)

My mobile rang at about 2pm this afternoon, ‘Unknown number’ filling the screen. It was BBC Radio Devon wondering if I could talk about #doyoulooklikeme at 3:30. Of course I could! Yes, my home county would help me spread the word: ‘One Devon woman’s search…’ was the hook.

I was briefly briefed by the producer on the questions she had given the presenters before Rod Stewart finished his song down the phone and we were live. There were a few detours from these questions, which the producer warned could happen, but all in all it went really well – according to my mum and grandpa *cough* BIASED *cough*. I will endeavour to put up the chat tomorrow when it’s available online.

In other news, Caitlin Moran very kindly retweeted me again on Twitter today, which has given me a few leads to follow up on – doppelgänger suggestions taking me from the capital to Cumbria to Canada. Will keep you posted. In the meantime, please keep ’em coming. Thank you.

Day 12: Emailing the world…

If I could, I would spend my days walking every corner of London before covering the width and breadth of the UK – from Land’s End to John o’Groats – and embarking on a trip around the world to find my doppelgänger.

Maybe one day I will. But for now I have to make the most of what I can do alongside other work commitments and keep an eye out in as many areas of the capital and the rest of the UK as I can before I next travel abroad. And in order to consistently conduct my search on an international scale? I have the internet.

Today I spent a lot of time emailing individuals who I think might be able to help me spread the #doyoulooklikeme word. I sent a lot of emails to a lot of people across the UK and in Ireland too and I hope something will come of it. At least if I don’t get anywhere with this lot, I’ve got the rest of the world to contact…

Day 11: Doppelganger – the movie

It may have a 3.9/10 rating on IMDb, a comically affected trailer (‘Look, just don’t touch me… Don’t confuse me with her. She may look like me but she’s not me’) featuring the likes of Drew Barrymore (perhaps warming up for her role in 1996 slasher film Scream) and George Newbern (perhaps demonstrating his versatility as an actor post-Father of the Bride) and be described as a horror, romance, thriller but I really want to watch Doppelganger.

Has anyone seen this modern cinematic masterpiece that fuses three different genres together or better still own a copy on VHS or DVD? WHAT IS IT LIKE? I might just bag myself a copy on Amazon and call it research. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this very Nineties trailer as much as I do…

Day 10: Vlog appeal update

Well, I think it’s safe to say my vlog was a success: I got sent one doppelgänger suggestion as a result. *Sobs*

No, it’s OK. I mean, it’s a start. A new era post-best-contender yet. (But please keep spreading the #doyoulooklikeme message wherever and whenever you can and sending your pictures too.
Thank you.)
