Day 27: New year, new domain(s)

Happy New Year, y’all.

I’m going to be concentrating my search efforts on Facebook and Twitter from now on. I might be wrong but I reckon social media is the way to go to reach a bigger audience and hopefully, in time, build a bigger following too in order to get closer to finding my doppelgänger.

I asked my lovely friend Dave if he would design a ‘wanted poster’ for my project and…
ta-da!

Image

Please share it with everyone you know (don’t worry, I know you won’t but even passing it on to your five besties would help) on Facebook, Twitter, email or courier pigeon (mine’s called Barry. Dear ol’ Bazza).

You can find me talking all things doppelganger – my search, stories in the news and some convincing lookalike suggestions if I’m lucky – on my Facebook page. It would be great if you could please ‘like’ the page and join me there. I’m also tweeting in general (with the occasional doppel tweet) at @sophierobehmed but @doyoulooklikeme will be the Twitter HQ for double discoveries. So please follow, say hello and tweet me up, peeps. (Peeps is bad enough. I refuse to say tweeps.)

Thanks so much for all your help, messages and support so far. I really appreciate it. Here’s to a lucky 2013.

Day 26: Greetings from India

No, I’m not in India but let’s pretend that I’ve been finding myself and my doppelgänger in Rajasthan since my last post in April. I know I’ve mentioned it before but I’ve started a Facebook page for my search, different tactic and all that. Please ‘like’ it, and if possible, share it on your Facebook walls with your friends and ask your friends to do the same. And perhaps introduce a bit of cross-pollination by emailing the link for my Facebook page to your family and friends? That would be wonderful. (OK, just one more.)

As always (I know, change the record, right?), I’m needing more lookalike suggestions so PLEASE get in touch with pictures and details or whatever leads you have. I thought I’d share a recent doppelgänger suggestion all the way from India from a guy called Chinnu who emailed me after reading a piece I wrote for Reader’s Digest. He sent a picture of Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor and according to many people, well, five people on Facebook, she might just be the best contender yet. But what do you think?

Day 25: Please world, help me find my doppelgänger

Hi everyone,

I’ve started a Facebook page to help spread the word of my doppelgänger search. I’d be most grateful if you could please ‘like’ my page and share it with your friends so the message carries on like a game of Chinese Whispers so I might find my lookalike.

I’ve even made another video, which you can find on the Facebook page, as I reach desperate levels to find her. WHERE IS SHE? Seen someone, know someone or you are someone who looks like me? Please get in touch. Thank you.

WordPress isn’t  letting me embed the video from Facebook so here it is on YouTube with currently just over a handful of viewers. Come on, let’s get this video viral… #pigsmightfly

Day 24: Seeing double

Does an identical twin have more than one doppelgänger? And are identical twins ever completely identical – are they, for example, born with moles and birth mark(s) in the same places and do they both have innie (or outie) belly buttons? Of course life experience inevitably lessens the resemblance between identical twins (whether that’s a different haircut, contact lenses or even a tattoo).

On the subject of twins, it’s not the first time I’ve been put in touch with a doppelgänger suggestion who already has their very own lookalike sibling. Caroline, below left, is a fellow writer. Her twin sister, Kelly, is not a writer as far as I know. But who looks more like me? Vote below…

Day 23: Meet woman from Uniqlo advert

Happy Christmas, everyone!

It’s thanks to my friend, Harry, for the next doppelgänger suggestion. He posted a picture of this woman on my Facebook wall after he found her in an an Uniqlo advert in Metro. Anyone know this woman? Unfortunately I don’t even know her name…

Please keep your doppelgänger suggestions coming. The more, the better. In the meantime, reckon woman from Uniqlo advert could be my doppelgänger? Vote below…

Day 22: Meet Kate

Kate was the first doppelgänger suggestion I got within minutes of doing a shout out on Facebook on the first day of my search. Kate’s a friend of a friend who also, rather interestingly, already has a doppelgänger in the form of her identical twin sister.

Anyway, what do you think? Let me know on the poll below.

Day 21: Adele’s doppelgänger is called Michelle

A woman called Michelle Meredith has posed, rather convincingly (well, until you get too close), as Adele in a video for Set Fire to the Rain, the third single from 21, that the real Adele hasn’t even made a video for yet. Brilliant.

Day 20: BBC Radio Manchester

So I was on BBC Radio Manchester  this morning. I was talking to presenter Heather Stott who was lovely and who, you might be able to tell, I found  funny (cue inadvertent, embarrassing, breathy laughter.) I particularly enjoyed her ‘Good one!’ comment at the end of the interview in response to #doyoulooklikeme as the blog’s name.

I’m also pleased I got to do a shout out to the city’s major Lebanese community, which of course includes other British Lebanese women who could look like me. For example, Samia Ghadie of Coronation Street  fame lives in the area. Although we don’t look that alike and she’s definitely not my doppelgänger. Still I feel a sort of bond with her because we come from the ‘same recipe’ as my Mum puts it and her older brother, Tariq, played with my older sister, Chantal, in the Middle East before I was even born.

Anyway, here’s Heather and I chatting from 128:12ish. Hope you enjoy it.

Day 19: Meet Charlotte

Most up to date photo ever (as of November 22 2011)

Charlotte

Charlotte is a 21-year-old sales
co-ordinator and aspiring model from Kent. Does she look like me? Cast your votes…

Day 18: A dog’s doppelgänger is a man’s best friend

Here’s a feel-good festive doppelgänger story: Rector Monsignor Robert Ritchie at St Patrick’s Cathedral in New York decided to jazz things up in the nativity scene – by introducing an identical statue of his labrador Lexington into the proceedings. You can read the full story here.
